7 WAYS

To Soundproof A Ceiling

The following methods are applicable to soundproof your ceiling efficiently

Single layer drywall

A single layer of drywall is just good enough to muffle loud speech. However, noises from impact will still be heard.

1

Double Layer of Drywall

With two layers of the heaviest drywall, there will be a considerable improvement.

2

Damping compound

A layer of Green Glue between the double drywall can stop airborne sound effectively. Neighbors shouting will be faintly heard.

3

Decoupled Ceiling

Decoupling is added in the form of hat channels and resilient sound clips. This, along with double drywall and green glue damping, will provide for excellent soundproofing.

4

Soundproofing the Floor Above Also

If possible, soundproofing the floor above will yield even better results.

5

FloatingĀ  Ceiling Joist

This method is most effective for soundproofing a ceiling but involves substantial cost and structural changes.

6

Adding Underlayment to the Floor Above
